In early 1980’s, a two (2) classroom building was built within the vicinity of the elementary school which was funded by the PTA and the school fund. The third year and fourth year students occupied the said room .The first year and second year students were holding classes in the barangay market located in the area which is currently occupied by the Buenavista National High School Main Campus.
Through the Republic Act no.6655 otherwise known as “Free Education Act of 1988”, the school became a newly nationalized high school thus, BUENAVISTA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL became its new institutional name.
In 1989, through the initiative and effort of the school administrator, the school has acquired a school site of an area of 15,000 sq. m. donated by the Municipal Government of Escalante, and by 1990 the school was one of the recipients of a two storey SEDP- Building and JICA equipments amounting to 3.5 million pesos.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Before World War II, Buenavista has long existed as a regular barangay of Escalante. There is no specific date about the creation of the barangay ,but according to some reliable sources, when the Spaniards arrived in this place , the name of their military leader General Valdez was engraved in a big stone but unfortunately the residents could not utter the words properly and they spoke it out as Barles. The name Barles existed for many years until the time that the Spaniards change it to Buena Vista which means good view.
From that time on, the word become pleasant to the ears of the residents. The barangay was then named” BUENAVISTA.”
